The SUBSTRING SQL Function in MySQL and MariaDB - String part |
|
| SUBSTRING | Syntax: | SUBSTRING(String, Position, Length) SUBSTRING(String FROM Position [FOR Length]) | Return value: | CHAR | Synonyms: | MID, SUBSTR | Function type: | String function | |
| | The SUBSTRING() function returns a part of "String" starting at "Position" with "Length".
If the "Length" argument is not specified, the function returns the remainder string starting at "Position".
If "Length" is 0 or negative, the function returns an empty string.
If "Length" is not specified and "Position" is negative, SUBSTRING() returns a string from the right of "String" with the number of characters from the positive value of "Position".
Numeric values of "String" are interpreted as character strings.
The arguments can also be specified using the FROM and FOR keywords.
If either argument is NULL, the SUBSTRING() function returns NULL. | SQL Examples for the SUBSTRING function |
