The FIELD SQL Function in MySQL and MariaDB - Index of string in list |
|
| FIELD | Syntax: | FIELD(Search string, Strings ('str1','str2', ...)) | Return value: | INTEGER | Function type: | String function | |
| | The FIELD() function returns the position (index) of "Search string" from a list of "Strings".
Numeric values in "Search string" or in the "Strings" list are interpreted as character strings.
If "Search string" is NULL or no match was found, the FIELD() function returns 0.
If "Search string" occurs more than once in the "Strings" list, the FIELD() function returns the index of the first occurrence.
The FIELD() function is complementary to the ELT() function. | SQL Examples for the FIELD function |
