The ASCII SQL Function in MySQL and MariaDB - Value of first byte of string |
|
| ASCII | Syntax: | ASCII(String) | Return value: | INTEGER | Function type: | String function | |
| | The ASCII() function returns the numeric value of the first byte of "String".
In the case of characters consisting of several bytes, only the value of the first byte is returned.
If the value of the entire character is to be returned for multibyte characters, the ORD() function can be used.
Numeric arguments are converted to strings.
If the value of the argument is NULL, ASCII() returns NULL. | SQL Examples for the ASCII function |

| The examples were created with the MyWAY SQL manager: | How to use the ASCII() function in MySQL and MariaDB databases | In MySQL and MariaDB the ASCII() function is used to get the ASCII value of a specific character. ASCII() takes a single character as an argument and returns an integer representing its ASCII value. The function is useful when the ASCII value of a specific character needs to be determined in various applications, such as character analysis, character manipulation, or sorting based on ASCII values. | | Further MySQL und MariaDB SQL String functions | CHAR | CHAR(Character code, [, Charset]) | More about CHAR Function |
