The INSERT SQL Function in MySQL and MariaDB - Insert string on position |
|
| INSERT | Syntax: | INSERT(String, Position, Length, String to insert) | Return value: | CHAR | Function type: | String function | |
| | The INSERT() function returns the "String", replacing "String" with "String to insert" from "Position" and the "Length" of characters.
If "Position" is not within the length of "String", the function returns the original string.
If "Length"+"Position" is not within the length of "String" or "Length" is negative, the function replaces the rest of the string starting at "Position".
A negative value or 0 for "Position" is outside the string and returns the original "String" as the result.
If the arguments "String" and "String to insert" contain different character sets, the result is returned in the "larger" charset.
The INSERT() function returns NULL if either argument is NULL. | SQL Examples for the INSERT function |
