The ORD SQL Function in MySQL and MariaDB - Value for first character |
|
| ORD | Syntax: | ORD(String) | Return value: | INTEGER | Function type: | String function | |
| | The ORD() function returns the numeric code of the first character of "String".
In the case of characters consisting of several bytes, the following bytes are added multiplied by (position*256):
For example: Byte0 + Byte1*(1*256) + Byte2*(2*256) ... etc.
For characters consisting of only one byte, ORD() behaves exactly like the ASCII() function.
Numeric arguments are converted to strings.
If the value of the argument is NULL, the function returns NULL. | SQL Examples for the ORD function |

| The examples were created with the MyWAY SQL manager: | How to use the ORD() function in MySQL and MariaDB databases | In MySQL and MariaDB, the ORD() function is used to get the numeric code value of the leftmost character in a specific string. The function returns the Unicode value of the first character in the string. ORD() can be used in a variety of ways, such as character parsing, sorting, or comparisons based on character codes. Only the leftmost character of the string is considered and all subsequent characters are ignored. | | Further MySQL und MariaDB SQL String functions | CHAR | CHAR(Character code, [, Charset]) | More about CHAR Function |
